What it costs to register an imported car

The tax depends on the emissions and on the taxable value of the vehicle, and almost nobody knows the figure until they are told it. Here you can work it out yourself, free, and without leaving any details.

Box V.7 of the technical sheet, in g/km.

If Hacienda or a gestoría has already told you. If you do not know, leave it blank.

The rules are not the same everywhere, and that changes the result.

Registration tax (IEDMT)
Cannot be worked out

It depends on the CO₂ emissions, and we do not have them.

Set by law — you can check it

DGT registration fee
€99.77

Published official fee. It is the same for any vehicle (2026).

Our fee
Cannot be worked out

We have not set a price for this trámite yet.

Our estimate — not an official figure

We cannot give you a total yet

We are missing the CO₂ emissions — they are in box V.7 of the technical sheet, and they decide which tax band applies; and our fee, which is not set yet.

Usually the biggest item: from nothing if the car is exempt, to more than 1,500 € on a large vehicle.

An indicative calculation using the 2026 figures. The final amount is set by Hacienda from the exact vehicle data and its own valuation table. This calculation queries no register and costs nothing.

What the trámite includes

  • Working out the IEDMT and preparing the case
  • Filing with Hacienda and the DGT
  • Registration document in your name

What it does not include

  • The ITV test, which you must pass yourself before we start
  • The physical number plates, which are made separately

The trámite is not open yet

We are settling the exact list of documents with a registered gestoría before we accept the first case. We would rather nobody turned up with the wrong papers: that costs them a day, and it would be our fault. The calculator above works now and does not depend on any of that.

If in the meantime you want to check the car — which engine it has, which tyres it is approved for, whether it is recorded as an import — you can look it up by VIN or registration. And if you are dealing with type approval, the reduced technical sheet is the step before the ITV.
